An Evening with Zachary Epcar
NL De in de Bay Area gevestigde experimentele filmmaker Zachary Epcar zal een avond bij ons langskomen om verschillende van zijn films uit 2014 t/m 2021 te presenteren. Epcar gebruikt de luxe van het moderne leven om de ongrijpbare verschrikkingen van het consumentisme te onderzoeken. Zijn zorgvuldig gekaderde beelden, geschoten op 16mm, zijn vervreemdend in hun vertrouwdheid, waarbij ze de lagen van onze verlangens afpellen om een verborgen identiteitscrisis bloot te leggen.
De films van Epcar zijn vertoond op het New York Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Pacific Film Archive, Museum of the Moving Image, Media City Film Festival, European Media Art Festival, San Francisco Cinematheque's Crossroads, 25 FPS en elders. Hij is medeoprichter van Light Field, een collectief voor filmprogrammering in de Bay Area dat zich richt op bewegende beelden op celluloid.
EN Bay Area-based experimental filmmaker Zachary Epcar will join us for an evening to present several of his films from 2014 to 2021. Epcar uses the luxuries of modern life to investigate the intangible terrors of consumerism. Shot on 16mm, his meticulously framed images are alienating in their familiarity, peeling back the layers of our desires to reveal a hidden crisis of identity.
Epcar's films have been screening at the New York Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Pacific Film Archive, Museum of the Moving Image, Media City Film Festival, European Media Art Festival, San Francisco Cinematheque’s Crossroads, 25 FPS, and elsewhere. He is a co-founder of Light Field, a film programming collective based in the Bay Area focusing on moving image art on celluloid.
