We gaan in augustus gewoon door met het vertonen van films! Ook deze maand zullen er weer een aantal gratis toegankelijke Cavia's Summer Club avonden plaatsvinden, waaronder de Nederlandse première van Lluc Sky Walker. Daarnaast kan er gegruweld worden bij een retrospectief van Cult Epics, vertonen we een politieke roadmovie uit Brazilië en sluiten we de zomer af met een openluchtvertoning van een Spaanse film bij Museum Het Schip – voordat we even voor anker gaan. ¡Hasta pronto!

NL Regisseur Jaume Fargas zal in Cavia zijn speelfilm Lluc Sky Walker
presenteren. De plot is even eenvoudig als diepgaand: een grijze en
verbitterde man hoort van de dokter dat hij weinig tijd heeft om te
leven. Tijdens het regelen van zijn eigen begrafenis, zal Lluc voor de
eerste keer levensvreugde ervaren. De film is opgenomen in Catalonië en
in de Tunesische woestijn, waar ook de eerste Star War-films zijn
gemaakt, precies op de plaats waar de echte sets en locaties zich
bevinden. Dit is een heel speciale film met een interessante acteerstijl
(of niet-geacteerd juist) en met extreem gekleurde verlichting en
duidelijk valse decors. Het heeft verschillende filmfestivals over de
hele wereld gewonnen, maar het is nog nooit in Nederland vertoond. Dus
dit wordt een première!
EN The director Jaume Fargas will be at Cavia presenting his feature film Lluc Sky Walker.
The plot is as simple as profound: a gray and bitter man hears from the
doctor that he has little time to live. While arranging his own
funeral, Lluc will discover for the first time the joy of life. It has
been shot in Catalunya and in the Tunisian desert, where the first Star
War flicks were shot, right where the real sets and locations are. This
is a very special film with a very interesting acting (or not acting)
style and an original theatre false look: extreme colored lighting,
obviously false decors. It has won several film festivals around the
world, but it has never be seen in the Netherlands. So this will be a
premiere!

Cult Epics 25 Years: Nekromantik + Pig
NL Cult Epics – een controversieel arthouse, horror en erotiek videolabel – heeft een boek uitgebracht. De oprichter van Cult Epics, Nico B. (tevens eigenaar van de voormalige Amsterdamse Cult Videotheek), komt naar Amsterdam voor een boeksigneersessie op 4 augustus in The American Book Center en zal er in Cavia een retrospectief te zien zijn van Cult Epics.
EN Cult Epics – a controversial arthouse, horror and erotica video label – has released a book. The founder of Cult Epics, Nico B. (also owner of the former Amsterdam Cult Videotheek), is coming to Amsterdam for a book signing at The American Book Center on the 4th of August and there will be a retrospective of Cult Epics at Cavia.

Alles aan de film is ongewoon, zelfs de verrassende soundtrack van niemand minder dan Duitse elektronische muziekcomponist Klaus Schulze (Tangerine Dream). Velen, waaronder Gaspar Noé, beschouwen deze film als een meesterwerk.

geweld om te gaan, in een niet-theoretische situatie? De film breekt met
het stereotype van een vampierfilm. Hoewel het is opgenomen in het
hedendaagse New York, is de cinematografie een zilverachtige zwart-wit,
alsof ze terug wil naar de moeder van alle vampierfilms - de Duitse film
Nosferatu, gemaakt in 1922.

Vanaf dit punt zien en horen we het epische verhaal van een arbeider wiens geluk en lijden het verhaal onthullen van de sociale en economische ontwikkeling in Brazilië in de afgelopen tien jaar.
EN Andre is a young boy that lives in an industrial neighborhood in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, near an old aluminium factory. One day, he finds by chance a mysterious notebook, which he starts to read. As a fairytale, the film divides itself, and plunges into the life of the notebook owner. What we see and listen from this point on is the epic story of a worker whose happiness and sufferings reveal the story of Brazilian social and economical development in the last ten years.
